Graduation HatHow do I study?

Students access the course material via the internet and e-mail. All communication (ie submission of assignments, questions for the tutor, discussions with other students etc) are conducted by e-mail. So students must be comfortable and competent in using a computer for internet research, writing assignments and sending attachments by e-mail etc.

Taking distance learning courses require a student to be organized and self-motivated to keep up with reading and assignments. We would encourage you to set aside a regular time and place to commit to the course. You should begin and conclude with prayer.

What Bible version?

We recognize there are a range of Bible versions people use, but we will primarily be using both the New International Version and New King James Version of the Bible - it would be good from time to time to make comparisons with other versions as well. To help this process out a large number of Scriptures referenced in the lessions are be linked to the Bible Gateway online site. You can easily select different versions from the dropdown list to compare.

How is the Course Organized?

There are a number of lessons that make up each unit – the introduction to the lesson briefly describes the content to be covered. It will also tell you the purpose and objectives of that particular lesson.

Each lesson is designed to take about two weeks to complete the study and assignment components. To allow a bit of flexibility, we recommend you send off the completed assignment within three weeks. Meantime, you can be working on the following lesson. The tutor will assess your submitted assignment and report back to you.

Each unit is designed to take about three months to complete. Once it is completed you will be approved by your tutor to begin the next unit.

There are four main elements that must be completed in each lesson of the unit. The four sections are:

Reading: read through the Bible passages as listed – maybe read twice so you become familiar with the key texts the lesson is based on. Individual verses may be recommended for memorization.

Research and Reflection: the comments and reflective questions are for you to read through and engage with personally. Take your time and allow the Lord to really speak to your heart through this.

Resources: we have included some audio, video, links to other websites or written excerpts which we believe will enhance your understanding and be inspirational.

Written assignments: the assignments will be on the lesson topic and e-mailed as an attachment.

The material provided to facilitate your studies is just the initial point for undertaking this course on the Life of Christ. It will be beneficial for you to discuss some of the things you have been learning with others also doing the course – this can be done through e-mail or skype etc.

If you are a student in NZ, we will also arrange times that you can come to one of the Capernwray sites and meet with tutors and others doing the course. We also recommend attending a one week teaching module at either Monavale (Cambridge) or The Crossing (Geraldine) if you can make time available for this. Costs will be advised on application.

What is the cost?

There is an initial registration fee of $35NZD. This is a one-off payment regardless of how many units that you select to do for the duration of your study. There is also a standard fee of $10NZD for each lesson within each unit. For example there are 5 individual lessons associated with Unit One, so the cost for that unit would be $50NZD. For Unit Two there are 10 lessons so the cost for that unit would be $100NZD. It is anticipated that the cost for the remaining units being developed would be between $50NZD and $70NZD per unit.

So the cost for registering for Capernwary Online plus Unit One would be $85NZD (includes the registration fee and unit cost). If you then wanted to continue and complete Unit Two the cost would be a further $100NZD (for the unit cost only).

The good thing to note about Capernwray Online is that you just pay for what you want to complete. If you just want to complete Unit One, then that is all you need to pay for. If you want to complete Unit One and Two, then you pay just for those units. However, please note that there is no refund available should you want to cancel from the course once your payment has been received and processed.

Special Offer!!

To celebrate the launch of Capernwray Online we are providing FREE course registration and Unit 1 teaching
(The Life of Christ) for all those that sign-up between March and May 2012!

Who is the Tutor?

Your tutor is Terry Cowland (MDiv; MTh; PhD) – he is a regular contributor to Capernwray Bible School as a lecturer, advisor and assessor. He is also a former pastor and has had significant experience of ministry internationally.

Terry and his wife Marita live in Te Awamutu and so is close to Capernwray and will look forward to meeting any New Zealand students at the Capernwray campus in Cambridge anytime.

How do I get started?

To participate in the course you will first need to ‘Sign Up’ and register (there is a short registration form associated with this process). Just click on the blue ‘Sign Up' area on the right of this page to open up the registration form. After you have completed the form and pressed the ‘Submit’ button you will receive back an email that will confirm the information that you have provided.

Once we have received your completed form we will e-mail back to you and confirm the initial start-up cost, as well as a link to make the payment online. Once your payment has been received we will activate your Capernwray Online access and send you an e-mail containing your username and password (which you will need to enter into the area under the ‘Sign Up’ section). The username and password are automatically system generated but you can change these to something more personal once you have logged into the course.

Once you have logged in the area to the right of the page (under the section ‘My Pages’) will list the units that are available to you. Just click on the link to ‘Unit One’, which will take you to the list of individual lessons….and away you go!!
